Marlon Simon
Marlon Simon, a Latin jazz percussionist, composer, and educator, developed
his unique style working in New York after graduating from the New School
for Social Research, with a degree in fine arts and contemporary music. He
has toured with Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, and Bobby Watson, and leads his
own Latin jazz ensemble, Marlon Simon and the Nagual Spirits. In 1999 he
received a grant to conduct a residency at Medford Memorial school in New
Jersey, and is presently an instructor at the University of the Arts. His
is on the roster of clinicians for the New Jersey Council on the Arts, and
is the author of Analyzing Latin Rhythms, a basic method for the
percussionist. We are proud to have him join the roster of Strings for
Schools, as leader of Afro-Caribbean Ensemble.
Members of the Marlon Simon Quartet are: Barry Sames (piano), Steve Beskrone (bass),
and Adrian Benson (percussion).
