Minas
Orlando Haddad has a Masters in Arts Administration from Drexel University, a Bachelor's in Music from North Carolina School of the Arts, and will be graduating soon with a Masters in Music Composition from Temple University. He is the musical director,
guitarist, and leader of the Brazilian ensemble, Minas. He has produced
three full length recordings with the group, and is presently on the faculty at the University of the Arts and teaching guitar at Bryn Mawr & Haverford Colleges. Orlando also wrote the original
music for "Black Water", aired on PBS, and "Amazon Journey", a documentary about the
Yanomami Indians in Brazil. Strings for Schools is pleased to
welcome Orlando as leader of the "World of Brazilian Music" program.
Patricia King grew up on Carlisle, PA. At an early stage in her life, she studied
classical piano and voice, and worked in musical summer stock theater. A graduate from the
North Carolina School of the Arts in voice, Patricia has been performing Brazilian music in
partnership with Orlando since 1978. In addition to being a performer, she is also a song
writer.
