A Cultural Visit to China with Yu Wei’s Chinese Music and Dance Ensemble
Through several interpretive dances by Yu Wei, a premier dancer from Beijing, and traditional instruments, students will experience a fascinating exploration of this 5,000-year-old country – a part of the world that still remains a mystery to many Westerners.
Yu Wei is joined by a second dancer, who performs dances representing the current year of the Monkey, and two musicians who play traditional Chinese instruments and their Western sisters. Yu Wei will dance to recorded music and changes costumes between each dance, while the musicians perform and educate the students on the instruments and types of music.
Both of the music and dance components show the heritage of Chinese history and culture. Students will learn about Chinese instruments, traditional folk songs, dance movements, history, and geography.
The ensemble, which includes “Ning Fang Melody,” and “Yu Wei’s Chinese Dance Collection,” works together to bring the highest quality of Chinese music and dance to Americans and to cultivate cross-cultural understanding through educational programs. Their goal is to present and preserve the traditional and contemporary Chinese musical arts with indigenous instruments and to bring Chinese performing arts to Western people, to promote greater cultural understanding, enjoyment, and an appreciation of Eastern arts. They work together to provide the perfect melody of Chinese music and dance.
Music and dance are the universal languages of human spirit, we believe that good music and dance can not only enrich people’s lives, but also foster values such as honesty, kindheartedness, love and integrity.
