Yu Wei

As a little girl Wei was selected by the Wuhan Song and Dance Theater to study at the famous Wuhan Dance and Opera Theater. She lived at the school for many years – studying traditional Chinese dance, ballet, and modern dance, as well as Peking Opera, aesthetics, and choreography. After graduating she became the principal dancer of the Wuhan Company and a guest artist with many leading Chinese dance companies. She was the lead dancer of the National Ballets “Lijiang River Sentiment” and “Yao Shan Flame”.

In 1992, Yu Wei moved to Beijing to study with nationally famous dance master Zhang Ke, and to create the group of solo dances known as the Yu Wei Dance Collection. She has performed her dances in theaters and festivals all over China, and has won many prestigious awards, including the Excellence Award in the National First Lotus Dance Competition in Beijing in 1998. In February 2000, Yu Wei came to America and now lives in Philadelphia.

Music and dance are the universal languages of human spirit, the ensembles believe that good music and dance can not only enrich people’s lives, but also foster values such as honesty, kindheartedness, love and integrity.
